What is Writing on Paper?
In selected countries, Writing on Paper is available with our IELTS on computer test. If writing feels more natural than typing, Writing on Paper means you can complete the Writing component of the test by hand.
During the test, you will sit at a computer desk and work your way through the Listening, Reading sections of the test on computer. When you come to the Writing section, you will see your tasks on screen, but you will be provided with an answer sheet and a pen to complete your responses.
Writing on Paper is not available for IELTS for UKVI tests.

IELTS Writing on paper: FAQs
The Writing test task types are the same whether you complete them on computer or on paper, so there is no difference in the level of difficulty.
However, if you find handwriting quicker and easier than typing, you may find that Writing on Paper helps you to perform better in your test.
No. You will get 60 minutes to complete the two Writing tasks, whether you take the section on paper or computer.
If you need more space to complete your answer, put your hand up and an invigilator will provide you with additional answer sheets.
No. Test centre staff will provide you with a pen for the Writing section. It is prohibited to take any of your own stationary into the test room.
If you take Writing on Paper, you will receive your results in 1-5 days.
No. The way you take the IELTS test does not appear on the Test Report Form.
